Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing sent a message on the occasion of 70th anniversary Kayin State Day which falls on November 7.
In his message, the Acting President wished for physical and mental health of the national brethren residing in Kayin State and the whole country as a whole. He highlighted the co-existence in unity and harmony of national brethren in the country throughout the history, and participation of all ethnic people including Kayin nationals for the country's independence struggle.
After gaining the independence, efforts have been made for designating the Kayin State, with Papun area according to the then constitution, followed by extension of more adjacent areas, comprising seven townships. The Kayin State Day celebration has been held since 1955, and this year's reached its 70th anniversary.
Highlighting the favourable weather condition and beautiful natural resources in addition to the invaluable ancient heritage, the Acting President praised the lovely tradition and customs of Kayin people. He pointed out that due to the legacy of divide and rule system by the colonialists, misunderstanding among the national brethren led to the armed conflicts, disrupting the peace and stability in the country.
He added that efforts have been made in cooperation with the ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) to achieve internal peace and stability in accordance with the agreements of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA). But some EAOs, neglecting the true situation, committed more terrorist acts after the Tatmadaw has taken the state's duty due to the electoral frauds during 2020 election.
Parts of Kayin State is also suffering the consequences of these instabilities. The Acting President urged all to prioritize for achieving peace and stability in the state, and despite challenges, he pledged to strive for achieving peace, stability, rule of law and development. He also called for participation of all in marching towards the multiparty democracy system, with the successful implementation of election process.
