Acting President of Myanmar and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing, sent a message to mark Kayin New Year Day.
In his message, the Acting President extended warm greetings and best wishes for health, peace, and prosperity to Kayin people and all ethnic nationalities.
He noted that Kayin New Year, celebrated on the first waxing day of Pyatho, is a meaningful and officially recognized public holiday in Myanmar. He said that although Myanmar’s ethnic groups have different languages, cultures, and traditions, they have lived together in unity and mutual respect within the Union. He highlighted the historical role of Kayin people in the country’s independence struggle and their contributions to national unity. He mentioned that Kayin State is a region rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage, and encouraged Kayin people to preserve their language, literature, culture, and traditions for future generations.
The Acting President also acknowledged that armed conflicts have caused long-lasting suffering and called on ethnic armed organizations to choose the path of peace. He said the government and Tatmadaw remain open to dialogue and are committed to national peace, stability, and development. He also stated that preparations are underway to hold free and fair multi-party democratic elections, urging all ethnic people to participate and support the process. He called for unity among all ethnic nationalities to reduce conflict, improve livelihoods, strengthen democracy, and build a peaceful and prosperous federal Union of Myanmar.
