Kayin New Year Celebration: Annual Ceremony held in Taninthayi Region

2761 Kayin New Year Celebration was held in Myeik of Taninthayi Region on January 2nd. Kayin New Year ceremony has been held happily and pleasantly on ThaLay HtaiKhokPo 1st Waxing of Pyatho, annually since BC 739when Kayin forefathers started settlements in Myanmar.

Chief Minister U Myat Ko extended greetings, saying that Kayin Nationals possess the lovely traditional customs. He called for safeguarding the traditional customs including literatures, culture, traditional songs, proverbs, instruments and attires for long term existence. He also pointed out the Government is also paying special attention for preserving the traditional customs and culture of national races.

 As Kayin State, a hub of the border trade is teeming with virgin natural scenic beauties, rich natural resources and valuable forests, it is a state with successful agricultural tasks under favourable weather. The most significant symbol of Kayin State is the River Thanlwin as well as the cultural emblem of Kayin ethnic nationalsis the ceremonial bronze drum.

The New Year festival, the housewarming ceremony, the new harvest feast and the festival of summoning the spirit of a dead personare famous in Kayin State and the Kayin don dance is a favourite of the people.In line with their long history, Kayin nationals possess fine traditions and customs as well as invaluably cultural heritage of their forefathers.These cultural heritages are invaluable for Kayin ethnic nationals.
