Artisans in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir are finalizing papier-mâché products for the festive season, fulfilling international orders despite challenges from U.S. tariffs. The region’s craftsmen produce Christmas decorations, primarily hand-painted balls in sizes ranging from one to five inches, as well as items like elephants and boxes.

Orders for the Christmas season typically begin in March or April due to the time-intensive handmade process. Most products are exported to the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom. U.S. tariffs have reduced orders, creating difficulties for the local industry, which relies on these exports for significant seasonal income.
