Kachin Cultural Museum: Rasing awareness for pubic to cherish traditional culture

Aiming to raise the traditional cultures and the development of the role of ethnic nationalities, the research is being done to preserve the tangible and intangible cultural heritages and to reveal the endangered traditional cultures of the Kachin ethnic tribes.

The ethnic tribes in Kachin State are urged to work in cooperation with the cultural museum to reveal their traditional cultural heritage and carry out research activities.

In the cultural museum of Myitkyina Township, traditional costume styles, literature, handmade traditional bags and accessories, the tangible and intangible cultural heritages, traditional festival, musical instruments, professional careers and traditional customs of Kachin people are on display.

Kachin cultural museum was established in 1964 with the collection of the antiquities and cultural artifacts.

In 1982-1983, the museum was upgraded as a two-storey building which has 120-ft in length and 80-ft in width. And it was opened to the public on 6th November, 1994 to study and observe the traditional customs of the ethnic tribes.
