Japan's Empress Emerita Tests positive for coronavirus

Japan's Imperial Household Agency said Empress Emerita Michiko has been infected with the coronavirus. The Empress has had coughs since early Sunday and discomfort in her throat from Monday morning.

She underwent a PCR test, which confirmed that she has been infected with the coronavirus. She is recuperating at her Tokyo residence. The Emperor Emeritus has tested negative for the virus.The couple visited Nikko in Tochigi Prefecture, for four days from Tuesday last week and returned to Tokyo on Friday.
