Japan is set to resume making financial contributions to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees. Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko told reporters on Tuesday that Japan will lift the suspension it imposed on the provision of funds, and start giving support again, as the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East UNRWA has improved its governance.
She said the humanitarian situation in Palestine is critical and the agency’s involvement in the distribution of humanitarian aid is essential. Japan suspended funding in January and the Ministry said Japan will give the agency about 35 million dollars as soon as preparations have been made. The money was allocated in last fiscal year’s supplementary budget.
