Italy signs deal on buying more gas from Angola

Italian Foreign Affairs Minister Luigi Di Maio announced an agreement to increase the export of Angolan gas to Italy in order to reduce reliance on Russian energy supplies.Di Maio, accompanied by Energy Transition Minister Roberto Cingolani, met with Angolan President Joao Lourencoand several ministers in the Angolan capital Luanda to conclude the deal on energy cooperation.Europe is trying to cut its reliance on Russian natural gas imports quickly, with leaders recognizing their payments help fund Moscow's military operation in Ukraine.The government in Rome is trying to diversify gas sources by making new deals with Algeria, Qatar, Angola, Congo, Azerbaijan and Mozambique.
