Italian commuters are being required starting Monday to show a vaccination certificate known as the "super green pass" and wear a specific medical mask to use public transportation.

This certification is reserved for those who are fully vaccinated or who have recently recovered from COVID-19. The pass is also mandatory to enter hotels, gyms and swimming pools. On Wednesday, the Italian government approved a measure requiring people older than 50 to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, as the country struggles with nearly daily new records of fresh infections fueled by the omicron variant.
