Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw inspected the work undertakings to improve the safety of Ma Mya Dam on Friday.
The measures included lowering the water level, strengthening the dam’s base, and constructing a rock toe. By the evening of October 16, the water level of the dam had been reduced by 8 feet and 5 inches, from 314.9 feet on October 10 to 306.5 feet. The stored water volume decreased by 10,370 acre-feet.
These measures have allowed more repair work to be carried out and improved water flow through the emergency spillway. He instructed officials to continuously monitor dam safety, manage water releases according to regulations, and prepare for emergencies such as heavy rain and flooding.
