The International Civil Aviation Organization announced on Friday, stating that travelers can bring no more than two power banks on flights. It added that passengers are prohibited from recharging these devices during the flight although flight crews may continue to carry and use power banks as required for aircraft operations.

Back in March 2025, a Hong Kong Airlines flight from Hangzhou to Hong Kong was forced to make an emergency diversion to Fuzhou after a power bank caught fire in an overhead bin. Following the incident, Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department updated its guidelines, prohibiting passengers on local carriers from using external chargers in overhead bins during flight.
