Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Mya Tun Oo on Saturday, visited the Swa Creek Bridge on the Yangon–Mandalay Expressway in Yedashe Township of Bago Region, to inspect completed riverbank erosion protection works.
He instructed officials to continue monitoring water flow to ensure long-term safety of the bridge. The bridge had suffered erosion damage due to heavy rains caused by storms in June 2025. Protective works, including gabion walls, steel basket revetments, and flow-control structures, were implemented using ministry funds and have now been completed.
The Union Minister then inspected flood reduction and river improvement works along Sinthay Creek in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, including dredging at the Uyin Bridge and Thaik Chaung Bridge waterways, as well as construction of supporting water diversion structures.
These projects aim to improve water flow and reduce flooding caused by previous storm damage. Dredging works are currently underway with 28% completed, while construction of steel basket structures is completed 67%. Officials from the Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems explained the progress of the projects.
The Union Minister emphasized workplace safety, quality construction, long-term river management, and sustainable protection of bridges and waterways.
