Inspection Tour: Port facilities and meeting with staff

Union Minister for Transport U Mya Tun Oo visited the site of Modern Warehouse Project implemented by Myanma Port Authority and Myanma Agricultural & General Development Public Limited (MAGDPL) in Thilawa Port area of Kyauktan Township, Yangon on 26th April.

At the site, officials reported the progress of warehouse project, in which the Union Minister stressed the need to complete in set time and phase by phase in line with the arrangement to store exports, especially agro product, via modern techniques. After observing the Myanmar International Terminal Thilawa (MITT), the Union Minister met with officials from Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Unit and stated that as 70% of International trade value is from sea route, emphasise is needed to cooperate between the government and private sector for sustainable development of Port sector.

To promote the volume of trade via Yangon Port, it is necessary to implement multi-transport system by utilizing strategic geographic. He added that expansion of Jetties is needed to provide Transshipment and Transit Trade Services. He also urged to transform digital system and energy usage in Port industries.

Then, the Union Minister and party met with staff under the Ministry and coordinated the needs. At the Theinphyu Shipyard, they inspected the construction of a new tow boat, stressing to pay attention to work site safety, completion in time and meeting set standard.
