Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing, accompanied by relevant officials, visited the Department of Immigration and Population’s Office in Kyaung Gone Township, Ayeyawady Region on May 7.

At the office, he encouraged staff members who were collecting biographic and biometric data of citizens who had already received their citizenship scrutiny cards, under the e-ID system, and issuing 10-digit Unique ID (UID) numbers. During the visit, the Union Minister interacted with local citizens present at the office, discussing challenges related to the process and explaining the benefits they will enjoy upon receiving their UID numbers.

He also explained how the UID system links to other public services and the importance of properly managing to prevent any loss. Following that, the Union Minister inspected the status of the Pankhin Project (Phase 3), where staff were verifying and processing citizenship scrutiny cards.

He also observed how data from the main e-ID server was being used to verify population records for accuracy. He listened to briefings from officials and gave instructions for improvements. He then examined how documents and personal records were being systematically stored in the township office and record rooms.

Based on the officials' explanations, he coordinated on needed improvements and provided support items for staff, including food and other supplies. In the afternoon, the Union Minister met with staff from various township, district, and regional offices of the Immigration and Population Department and discussed the impact of the recent Mandalay earthquake, which had damaged some departmental housing and offices.

He acknowledged that despite this, staff had resumed work and were continuing operations. He also emphasized that, following the government’s directives, efforts were being made in collaboration with relevant local authorities and departments to accurately compile voter lists and carry out Pankhin Project tasks.

During the discussion, staff presented updates on implementation progress, challenges faced, and further requirements. The Union Minister responded by addressing the needs and provided food and financial support for the staff. He then reviewed the ongoing verification processes using e-ID server data and confirmed population records at the headquarters.
