Union Minister for Hotels, Tourism and Culture U Maung Myint and officials inspected the operational status and ongoing work at the National Library (Nay Pyi Taw) on Monday.

During the visit, Director General of the Department of Historical Research and National Library U Hlaing Win Maung reported the operations and renovation work following damage caused by the 2025 Mandalay earthquake. The Union Minister instructed that remaining renovation work be completed by the end of May 2026 and emphasized the need to make the library more attractive to readers.

He suggested opening coffee and souvenir shops, boosting readership, and accelerating digitization efforts. He also called for greater public awareness through social media, as well as talk shows and interviews on Myawaddy TV and MRTV. The Union Minister later toured key sections of the library, including reading rooms, collections, the e-library and data center, and urged officials to expand digital services, increase user numbers, and ensure proper maintenance of the building and materials.
