Due to continuous and heavy rainfall in the upper regions of the Maykha and Malikha rivers in northern part of Myanmar, the Ayeyarwady River began to rise in Myitkyina starting from May 31, and by the morning on June 2, it had reached 1,205 cm, exceeding the township's danger level of 1,200 cm. As a result, flood-affected areas in Myitkyina have expanded. Two more emergency rescue posts have been added, bringing the total to eight locations, where rescue operations are actively underway. Additionally, 30 temporary flood relief centers have been opened in monasteries, schools, and Christian institutions within the city.
Amid these efforts, Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan, together with the Commander of the North Command Major General Aung Zaw Htway, senior military officers, members of the state government, and departmental officials, visited flood relief camps on the afternoon of June 1. They went to Aung Zay Yan Aung Monastery in Myothitgyi Ward and a monastery in Myay Myint ward, where they met and encouraged flood-affected residents, providing them with financial aid and food supplies. Cooking teams were also organized at each camp to ensure proper food distribution and daily meals for the families.
Following that, the Chief Minister, the commander, and officials inspected the water level of the Ayeyarwady River from Balaminhtin Bridge and checked the status of the newly constructed embankment on the Waingmaw Township / Mine Nar side of river bank.
Furthermore, in the morning on June 2, the Chief Minister, accompanied by officials, visited Basic Education High School No. (12) (Zilon ), which serves as a flood relief center.
