Information Release: 10 New Omicron Cases Detected

The Ministry of Health issued information release on detection of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant on February 2. The Ministry of Health is continuously conducting “COVID-19 Molecular Disease Surveillance”, and releasing information on the detections of SARS CoV-2 Omicron variant in a timely manner.

The molecular test of laboratory samples of the COVID-19 virus of the returnees from foreign countries by Relief Flights, larger outbreaks of local transmissions and the suspected patients has been carrying out. The 10 laboratory samples of the COVID-19 virus were conducted a molecular test at the National Health Laboratory on 2nd February, 2022 and the SARS-CoV-2 Variant Omicron was found in all 10 laboratory samples.

These 10 Omicron cases are Myanmar nationals from a factory in Mingalardon Township, Yangon Region. Out of them, 3 patients who show the symptom of disease are admitted to the designated hospitals and the rest ones are separated for medical treatment.

The close contacts with them undergo strict quarantine and lab tests. To date, the SARS-CoV-2 Variant Omicron cases in Myanmar have reached 320. Therefore, it is announced that the ministry is stepping up the COVID-19 disease monitoring and control measures plus disease prevention, control and treatment activities.
