Indonesia boosts cooperation with three Island states

Indonesia has agreed to strengthen economic cooperation with three small island states namely Cabo Verde, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea. Indonesian Foreign affairs Minister Retno Marsudi had a bilateral meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of Cabo Verde, Miryan Viera, on the sidelines of the Archipelagic and Island States Forum (AIS forum) summit 2023 in Nusa Dua, Bali.

At the meeting, Minister Viera proposed to cooperate in blue economy, infrastructure, and tourism sectors with Indonesia.  Minister Retno accepted the Carbo Verde Minister’s proposal to cooperate in the three economic sectors. Both foreign ministers also agreed to immediately commence discussion regarding a bilateral consultation agreement and a visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passport of both countries.  

Minister Retno also met with Minister of national events and Assistant Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs of Papua New Guinea, Justin Tkatchenko. Both ministers hailed the growing bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
