Indonesia and Sri Lanka to boost trade relations

In a bilateral meeting in China on Tuesday, both leaders discussed the improvement of cooperation between the two countries in various sectors. In economic field, Indonesia President welcomed Sri Lanka's plan to form a preferential trade agreement.

He also expected Sri Lanka to lift its import ban on palm which is Indonesia's leading commodity, produced with environmental standards and several Indonesian state-owned enterprises have explored to cooperate with Sri Lanka.

Widodo hoped that Sri Lanka President will support this cooperation, especially in train carriage supply and electronic passport printing. Widodo also expressed Indonesia's support for Sri Lanka's Chairmanship of the Indian Ocean RIM Association in 2023-2025 and welcomed Sri Lanka's desire to become an ASEAN sectoral partner.
