Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the national celebrations for the 12th International Day of Yoga from the historic Red Road in Kolkata.

During his address, Modi mentioned that the goal should be to feel more flexible at 40 than at 20, and more energetic at 50 than at 30. He urged citizens to shift from a "one-day celebration" to making yoga a daily family routine.

Modi also emphasized the global impact of the practice, stating that June 21 has evolved into "the world’s largest collective celebration" that transcends cultures and borders. This year’s official theme is "Yoga for Healthy Ageing", focusing on how a lifelong yoga practice fosters physical vitality, mental clarity, and independence as people grow older.
