Indian Health Minister assesses heat wave preparedness

With warnings of heat wave conditions to persist in the summer of 2024, India's Health Minister chaired a strategic meeting on Tuesday to plan countermeasures and preparedness of associated authorities.

The meeting was held to review public health preparedness to tackle heat related illness due to heat waves and action plan for upcoming summer season. He instructed officials to ensure that deaths due to heatstroke go down. He also suggested parties to be sent to all states to assess the situation on ground.

The India Meteorological Department has warned of extreme heat conditions to be prevalent throughout upcoming summer season. In the advisory, the department has warned of scorching heat conditions to persist for 10-20 days in the duration of April to June.
