





Hailing the 77th anniversary of Independence Day, which falls on January 4th, fun fairs and traditional street games have been held across Myanmar.
In Yangon, residents celebrate the Independence Day by organizing fun activities. From young children to elders, everyone participates in the sports activities.
Chu San Tha, Participant said "I took part in today's fun fair games. I played water bottle hitting, snack eating, and potato collecting. I participated in the snack-eating game to satisfy my hunger."
Tun Lin Oo, Participant said "I played five games for this Independence Day activity and won first place in three of them: the race, tray carrying, and potato collecting. I participate in this activity every year, and it’s really fun."
Organizing sports competitions fosters the habit of engaging in sports among the youth, while also nurtures the spirit of sportsmanship and helps produce outstanding new-generation athletes.
Maung Maung, Yay Kuu Relay Station Staff Housing, Second In-charge said "We have been organizing Independence Day fun fairs with the participation of families from the staff housing since 2022, and this is the fourth edition. The event includes various sports activities focused on promoting the health and fitness of children while providing fun for the families. Through this, outstanding athletes may emerge, with the potential to progress to ward, township, district, and state-level events."
Winners of each sports event were awarded, while incentives were presented to every participants. In addition, a charity feast was served to all attendees.
Nyo Lwin, Seik Pyo Yay Staff Housing said "This is the annual celebration to mark the Independence Day. We not only organize fun activities for children but also serve with charity foods. To be match with the Independence Day occasion, we serve with steamed sticky rice, oily sticky rice and tea. For sports competition, we added more categories for this year. It includes, race, potato collecting, tin hitting, tug-of-war, and football. We also arranged games for children such as snack eating. We awarded the winners of each games, and also arranged incentives for every participant."
On 4th January 1948, Myanmar proudly declared its independence from British colonial rule. To honor this historic moment, people across the country embrace the joy and spirit of community through exciting sports competitions.
