Inception Workshop: To Improve Agroforestry For The Livelihood Of Communities

The inception workshop on the development of community-owned forest and the mixed cropping forest system project was launched at the Grand Amara Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday.

The project aims to improve Agroforestry as a potential strategy for enhancing livelihood improvement of communities under the Community Forestry Project. At the event, Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Ye said that in order to provide continuous support, the community owned forests have been implemented since 1995 to emerge forest management with the participation of the public.

The Forest Department is conducting research activities related to the cultivation of mixed cropping forests, public awareness, basic training courses, agricultural methods and demonstration of mixed cropping forest plantations.

The Union Minister called for emergence of community-owned forests by cultivating the mixed cropping to be sufficient food for the people, to conserve the forests and produce value-added products as a business. The project is implemented by Mekong-Lanchang Cooperation Special Fund in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Bago Regions and the project period is set from December 2021 to November 2023 for the emergence of community-owned forests based on the mixed crop forest system.
