Iceland held its national referendum on whether to reopen negotiations to join the European Union. Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir and Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir cast their votes in favor of restarting accession talks, acting as prominent advocates for the "Yes" campaign.

This is a non-binding "pre-referendum" to determine whether to restart talks stalled since 2013. A second, binding referendum would be required to approve any final membership deal negotiated with Brussels.
