




The Upper Kengtawng Hydro Power Project is over 70% completed and being carried out near Kengtawng in Shan State (South).
It is being implemented by Department of Hydro Power Implementation under the supervision of the Ministry of Electric Power and expected to be completed in March 2025.
Official, MOEP, said " The Upper Kengtawng Hydro Power Project is implemented with the Union budget for the national investments. The project was started since 2008-2009 financial years and being carried out to complete in 2024-2025 financial years. In the project, there are about 95% of water diversion processes and the main dam constructions are completed. Also about 86% of water supply tunnel work has been completed and 13% of pressure adjustment steel pipeline process, the power plant process 17% has been completed. "
When this project is completed, 267 million kilowatt hours of electricity can generate and it will able to supply electricity not only the area around the project but also all over the country through the national grid, it’s learnt.
