







In commemoration of the 75th Anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) Independence Day on 4 January, on humanitarian and compassionate grounds as well as on the goodwill of the government, a total of 7,012 male and female prisoners were pardoned and released from their respective prisons, jails and camps across the nation under Code of Criminal Procedure Article 401 (1) "to serve the new punishment together with the remaining punishment to which he or she was sentenced this time if more offence is committed". Out of them, 676 prisoners were released from Mandalay Central Prison.
Cho Win Tun, Director, Mandalay Region Prison Department said "On the on humanitarian and compassionate grounds, the Prime Minister gave pardon to inmates and prisoners who were serving their sentences in prisons and jails from respective regions and states. Mandalay Central Prison gave pardons to 676 inmates and as the whole region, 1,385 male and female prisoners have been released. "
On their release, the prisoners said they thank the government for giving amnesty to them and they feel very happy to be with their families.
Released Prisoners said "I’d like to express thanks to Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing who gives amnesty to us. The prison that we have known is really different from that we actually live in the prison now. The inside is also clean and all the staffs take care of everything to us. So, we thanks very much and I’m very happy as I am going to see my family. "
Released Prisoners said "I am very happy to be with my family. I’d like to say special thanks to the Chairman of the State Administration Council as the sentences are remitted. We are very pleased to see my family. "
There are 5 prisons and 7 correctional camps in Mandalay Region and 1,385 male and female prisoners were released on Independence Day under the SAC order. Likewise, 1,400 prisoners, including 13 male and 1 female foreigners as well as 129 male Bengalis and 108 female Bengalis were released from the Insein prison in Yangon Region under amnesty on the Independence Day.
