The US’s House voted on Monday to express support for the decision of Finland and Sweden to apply to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Members voted 394-18 in support of H.Res. 1130 as well as calling on all members of NATO to ratify the protocols of accession swiftly.

Finland and Sweden upcoming NATO memberships have been closely followed as it marks a major shift in not only their security policies, but the overall defense architecture in Europe. Both countries had adopted a neutral stance toward Russia for most of their recent history, but the invasion of Ukraine propeled them to take a new direction.
