Residents of Hong Kong's Sha Tin district slammed the tactics of Hong Kong's pro-democracy protesters on Monday. Roads were reopened and public transport resumed in the wake of a major protest that saw violent clashes. The streets of Sha Tin were strewn with the remains of last night's protest.

The recent protests are the latest in a wave of demonstrations that have rocked the former British colony for more than a month, fuelling its biggest political crisis since China re-gained control of the territory in 1997. The focus of the rallies has switched from the extradition bill, which would allow people to be sent to mainland China for trial, to broader issues including calls for political reform and universal suffrage.
