Home Science School: Assistance to build professional career

Under the Department of Social Welfare of the Ministry of Social welfare, Relief and Resettlement, 10 home science schools are opened and 14 kinds of home science training courses are offered. The school of home science is opened 8 times yearly according to the fiscal year.

The home science schools are opened in Yangon, Mandalay, Mawlamyaing, Pathein, Taungoo, Myitkyina, Pyapon, Sittwe, Ywa Ngan and Dawei – those who are interested in vocational subject can join this training course. The home science training courses are conducted through practical aspects and each training period will last for one and half month.

Deputy Director, Yangon Home Science School, Win Mar Oo said "The home science school was established by the Technical, Agricultural and Vocational Department in 1973 and then, it was shifted to the Department of Social Welfare under the Ministry of Social welfare, Relief and Resettlement. Currently, the training course (2/2022) has been conducted during the 2022-2023 fiscal year and the one and half month training course starts from 13th May to 22nd July."

The home science school continues to provide home science training programmes such as sewing and handicrafts training through theoretical and practical aspects.

Deputy Director, Yangon Home Science School, Win Mar Oo said "The sewing training course covers women wear making with inch& cm method, coat and trouser cutting, tailoring and making. In handicrafts training course, we have knitting, embroidery, sequin crafts and plastic bag making. Cooking Chinese and Myanmar food and preparing international dishes are provided in culinary training course. A total of 14 categories of training courses are offered and 124 trainees have completed the training course (1/2022) in 2022-2023 fiscal year."

Aiming to be able to build the professional career, the home science training courses have been offered for those who are interested in these courses. This training is conducted with 2 sessions from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00pm to 3:30 pm.
