



Two types of bear species; Sun bear and Himalayan bear species from BagoYoma mountain and Puta-O of Kachin State are conserved at the Yangon Zoological Gardens. On 30th December 2021, two Himalayan bear cubs were born and now they are kept healthy at the Zoo for the public view.
Yangon Zoo is the oldest in Southeast Asia and it conserves about 1500 animal population including rare and endangered species. It also provides regular health care and feeding method that is closed with nature to the animals, according to the Chief Veterinarian of the Yangon Zoo said.
Dr Tun Myint, Chief Veterinarian, Yangon Zoo said “There are two parts in giving animal health care; preventive medicine and medication. Preventive medicine means vaccine injection and arrangement for hot-cold balance. As soon as the disease occurs, treatment is provided in a timely manner.”
In conserving rare animal species, the Himalayan and sun bear species are conserved at the zoo The Himalayan bear species inhabit in Southeast Asia and Asian nations. In terms of age, they live between the age of 25 and 30 in the jungle and up to 35 years in the gardens.
