The Thadingyut festival is accompanied by a set of holidays perfect for the general public to spend time with family and travel to all places.

On the Thadingyut holidays, the Ancient Bagan Archaeological Zone was crowded with holiday-makers and pilgrims from both home and abroad.

The thousands of temples that are spread across the plains of Bagan are the most impressive evidence to the religious devotion of Myanmar’s people. So, people love to visit Bagan to explore ancient cultural heritage of Myanmar people, pay homage to pagodas, temples and Buddha images, to taste local food and buy local products there during their holiday period.

Visitor (Yangon), Moe Pa Pa Sandar said “I pay a visit to Bagan with my family because of holidays of my husband and my son.  We stay at monastery. We will stay here for 3 days for paying homage to the pagodas. We have already visited Tuyin Taung, Lawka Nandar pagodas and many others.  The local foods are fresh here and local dresses are so nice.”

The arts of hand painting or temporary tattoo painting in various designs on the skin of people are also attractive to visitors to get a fascinating experience. And the sceneries that marionettes hanging from trees are also breathtaking for the visitors.

Visitor (Nay Pyi Taw), Yin Zar Tun said “I make pilgrimage to Bagan because of my holidays. I have already visited Shwezigon, Htilo Min Lo and Ananda Temples. I will pay a visit in Bagan only one day. I have also arranged to taste local foods. Before, there was no temporary tattoo painting in Bagan. There was no scenery that marionettes were hanging from trees on the road-side. The visitors love to make hand painting here.”

Visitor (Saku, Magway Region), Moe Zaw said “We are from a boarding school in Saku. So, I come here to organize about 50 students. Our trip is 3 days/2-night tour here. We have already paid homage to Myazedi and Shwe Gugyi Temples. I come here to paint temporary tattoo. After that, we will visit Tant Kyi Taung Pagoda.”

The souvenir and craft shops, traditional clothes, local products and food selling shops in Bagan were packed with more visitors as usual during Thadingyut holiday period. The ancient city of Bagan has been approved for inclusion on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in July of this year.
