










On 13th December, the opening ceremony of Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) Single Topic Conference on Cirrhosis was held in Yangon. Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win attended the ceremony, and made a speech.
The Union Minister underscored the purpose of the conference which is to enhance Myanmar’s hepatology medication sector, keeping abreast with the international standards and to establish closer relations between local and foreign experts.
The Union Minister highlighted the strenuous efforts of the Ministry in development of hepatology and gastroenterology, publishing guidelines for treatments, administering hepatitis B vaccination programs and offering free Hepatitis B treatment through National Hepatitis Control Programme since 2017.
Likewise, the necessary equipment to examine liver fibrosis and gastroscopy test have been provided to People’s Hospitals as well as liver detox and repair treatments are being provided for liver cancer patients.
The Union Minister added that Myanmar’s successful liver transplantation projects are the achievement of the collaboration between hepatology and surgery and expressed his hope for the emergence of modern and effective treatments which will benefit liver cirrhosis and related diseases.
The Conference is set to be held from 13 to 14 December with the active participation of 45 specialists from 18 countries and about 320 specialists and experts from Myanmar.
