The US launched a 6-month "NATO 3.0" review of its military footprint in Europe to push member states to take primary responsibility for their own conventional defense.

Announced on Thursday by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth at the NATO summit, the move comes as Washington shifts strategic priorities and threatens to cut its organizational dues unless allies rapidly meet spending targets.

The US is reportedly evaluating significant pullbacks that could potentially reduce conventional deployments, air power, and other assets. To offset these potential cuts and reassure allies, discussions are underway to expand the nuclear sharing program by allowing more European nations to host US nuclear-capable forces.
