Mangrove forests are truly important for nature and humanity. So, government and local residents are putting strenuous efforts into conservational works of mangrove forests and its development progress.

Aiming to protect the possible consequences in mangrove forests due to climate change and mangroves’ development, Environmental Conservation Department (Rakhine State) is growing mangrove seedlings in Kyauk Tan Chay and Shwe Min Kan villages of Sittwe Township, as well as conducting awareness talks and pamphlet distribution activities, according to the director of the department.

It’s is learnt that, mangroves used to be more common but currently mainly grow in 3 different regions: Rakhine State, Ayeyarwaddy Mega Delta, and Tanintharyi Region.

Likewise, Depletion of mangrove forests can be happened for several reasons, for example, clearing of mangrove forests, usually for commercial uses or resources extraction, also, economic pressures to overexploit and expand the aquaculture and agricultural industry. There are also natural threats that contribute to mangrove deforestation such as soil erosion, land loss, inundation, and sea flooding and so on.

So, the cooperation works of entire people including the rural communities who are heavily dependent on the resources from the mangrove forests for a living are needed for the sustainable conservation of mangrove forests while they are important to the country’s economy, climate and biodiversity.
