Health Insurance: Foreign travelers need to buy insurance when applying for visa

Foreign travelers need to purchase the Myanmar health insurance to cover health-related issues including the COVID-19 infection when they apply for visit visa.

Myanmar Health Insurance can be purchased via online, and except ambassadors, all foreign nationals need to purchase the health insurance. 

Lwin Oo, General Manager, Myanma Insurance, said " The Ministry of Health used to provide medical treatment to some foreigners. In this case, government hospitals are now allowed to take medical fees because of the rules. And, the foreigners took the medical services from us but they did not pay the treatment costs for various reasons. Some foreigners want to take medical treatment in Myanmar with health insurance of other countries, but they can’t because we have no international health insurance connection. So, we set the rules for all foreign travelers except ambassadors, to purchase the health insurance when applying for visa to visit Myanmar."

Health insurance fees will be deducted by online system when foreign travelers arrive at the Yangon International Airport, it’s learnt.
