Health Improvement : International Diabetes and Endocrinology Conference

Union Minister for Health Prof. Dr. Thet Khaing Win attended the International Diabetes and Endocrinology Conference 2025 in Yangon on Saturday. In his opening remarks, the Union Minister cited the 2024 STEP survey, revealing 7.9% of people with diabetes, 12.3% with pre-diabetic, while 26.8% are overweight and 7.8% obese.

He stressed the growing health risks from poor lifestyles and the need for early detection and free treatment for diabetes, high blood pressure, and other non-communicable diseases. He also mentioned the ongoing health awareness programs, weekly screenings, and the Universal Salt Iodization Program to prevent hormone-related diseases.

The conference, held from August 23 to 24 under the theme "Advancing Care in Diabetes and Endocrinology", is joined by 450 local and international health professionals, including speakers from Austria, Cambodia, India, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, and the Philippines. Topics include the use of AI technology for diabetic complications such as eye, kidney, and nerve damage. The event also features 8 symposiums, 35 scientific posters, and exhibitions on medical devices and innovations.
