Information Team of the National Defense and Security Council Tuesday issued an announcement concerning the health condition of Pro-Tem President U Myint Swe. Since the beginning of 2023, Pro-Tem President U Myint Swe began experiencing symptoms of slow movements and the loss of appetite.

As a result, the special medical team consisting of senior specialists and physicians conducted all-round medical checkups. Accordingly, it was found out that he is suffering from Parkinson ’s disease and related neurological disorders affecting the function of nerve system.

From 15 to 19 April 2024, he received medical treatment at Mount Elizabeth Medical Center in Singapore. From 27 May to 18 June 2024, he received continuous medical treatment at 1000-bedded No. (2) Military Hospital. After being discharged from the hospital, Pro-Tem President U Myint Swe received follow-up medical treatment under the supervision of Union Minister for Health Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, who leads the special medical team. However, due to no significant improvement in his health condition, he received medical leave and home-based treatment starting from 18 July 2024.

In July 2025, U Myint Swe experienced more health issues such as weight loss, poor appetite, fever and impaired consciousness. As a result, he was readmitted to No. (2) Military Hospital (1000-bed) for further treatment on July 24, 2025. Following new medical assessments, it was determined that his current condition is of serious concern, and he is now receiving medical treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
