Handover Ceremony: Myanmar donates 1000-ton of rice to Sri Lanka

A ceremony to handover 1000 tonnes of rice to Sri Lanka from Myanmar was held at the Asia World Port Terminal in Yangon, Friday.

At the event, Union Minister for Commerce U Aung Naing Oo said that the donation shows the sympathy of the Myanmar government and people towards the Sri Lankan people.

He expressed his hope that the friendship and cooperation between the two countries will be promoted more. Then, the Union Minister handed over the documents about the donation of rice.

Afterwards, the Sri Lankan Ambassador presented a letter of acknowledgment to the chairman of the Myanmar Rice Federation for arranging to export rice and also spoke words of thanks to Myanmar government and officials.

He also said that this kind of donation is very helpful for Sri Lanka which is currently facing an economic crisis and also expressed thanks to Prime Minister Senior General Min AungHlaing.

The Union Minister for Commerce also held meeting with Chairman of Myanmar Rice Federation and officials in Yangon on Friday to discuss exporting more quality rice, seeking new markets, more cultivation and production in local and measures for promoting the interests of farmers.

Later, the Union Minister met with officials of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Brother Associations at the UMFCCI office in Yangon in the afternoon.

At the meeting, the Union Minister discussed promoting export products, solving the problems that are being faced in tradings, boosting exports, finding ways to promote trade sector for the state’s economic development and cooperation in stabilizing  foreign currency exchange rate.
