Airport authorities in Haiti announced over the weekend that fuel shortages would cause the cancellation of flights to and from the Toussaint Louverture airport in the capital Port-au-Prince.

On Monday, short distance flights like those to Miami were landing and taking off normally but local airlines advised passengers of possible delays and cancellations due to fuel shortage.

There has been no official information about the causes of the shortage, but many gas stations in the capital have closed while others have long lines of vehicles waiting to fill up.

In November last year, fuel shortages almost brought the country to a halt. The fuel shortage is only one of the many crises the Caribbean nation is facing.
