Guatemala's Prosecutor's Office carried out a series of raids arresting members of an alleged migrant smuggling ring. Authorities said they were responsible for trafficking 15 Guatemalan migrants who were later killed in northern Mexico in 2021.

Ten people had been arrested, including the leader of the organization. The organization is in fact a criminal enterprise made up of an operational part and a part that deals with the financial and laundering parts.

"The investigations continue and there will undoubtedly be more arrests," Guatemala's Interior Minister said. In January 2021, the bodies of 19 people, shot and burned, were found in Camargo, a town on the Mexican side of the border with the United States.
