Transitional President General Brice Oligui Nguema casted his vote in Gabon's capital city of Libreville as the central African country held a referendum on a new constitution. The referendum was held after 55 years of rule by the Bongo dynasty in the oil-rich nation.

Voting began late at several polling stations in the capital Libreville, and local media said voter turnout will be a key factor. The proposed constitution sets out a vision of a presidency with a maximum of two seven-year-terms.
