The chair of the G20 summit ended the two-day gathering with a call to continue efforts for a better future. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that “They work hard, even though they are aware that they only scratched the surface of the profound challenges that the world has to face.

Let’s continue building a fair world and a sustainable planet.” His comments touch on the group’s joint declaration issued on Monday in which the leaders called for an end to global inequality and pledged to support developing countries. The declaration says inequality is the foundation of global challenges.

It includes measures to tackle poverty, famine and climate change by mobilizing funds. Regarding international trade, this year’s declaration does not explicitly discourage protectionism, unlike last year’s. Instead, it stresses the need to secure a fair and open multilateral trade system.
