Starting March 12, 2026, fuel stations in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay, and Taunggyi began using QR Codes linked to vehicle Wheel Tax information to ensure smooth and fair fuel distribution. The system, accessible via a mobile application, helps prevent shortages and allows genuine fuel buyers to purchase efficiently.

On the first day, 62,017 cars and 56,080 motorcycles successfully bought fuel using the system. Some issues were noted, including faded barcodes and data mismatches, which authorities are working to resolve.

From March 15, stations will issue QR Codes even if the barcode cannot be scanned, based on manually entered vehicle data. For long-distance travelers, fuel can be purchased at stations in major towns using receipt proof without rescanning.

International fuel prices have risen sharply, but local authorities are keeping domestic fuel price increases moderate with 12% for petrol and 23% for diesel compared to March 13. Myanmar currently has enough fuel stock for 40 days of petrol and 50 days of diesel, with additional imports on the way. The Ministry of Energy urges the public to cooperate to ensure fair access for all.
