French troops in coordination with the Lebanese army were cleaning up Beirut's port area, the site of the deadly August 4 blast that ripped through the Lebanese capital. Working with the Lebanese army at the bus station, were 400 French troops with 150 vehicles. The explosion, which killed 180 people, injured about 6,000 and left nearly 300,000 people homeless, was the most destructive single incident in Lebanon's history.

French President Emmanuel Macron was the first leader to travel to Beirut after the explosion and has called on the implementation of reforms in the Lebanese system so that the country can access funds from the International community to help it overcome its financial and economic crisis.
