Free Eye Surgeries: Kachin State CM attended the ceremony

On the afternoon of October 19, free eye examinations and surgeries, offered as the Cakkhu Dāna (contribution of sight), provided to local residents suffering from eye diseases within the Kachin State took place at the 500-bed People's Hospital in Myitkyina. It was led by the Venerable Thephyu Kyaung Sayadaw Dr. Bhaddanta Paññājota, under the guidance of the Ministry of Health, with the support of the Kachin State Government and donations from well-wishers. The Venerable Thephyu Kyaung Sayadaw, Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan, and responsible officials attended the event. They warmly greeted and encouraged the local people who came to receive eye examinations and surgeries, and generously distributed snacks, purified water bottles, and lunch boxes.

The multi-step process of free eye examinations and surgeries was led by eye specialists Dr. Win Tun Naing from the Mandalay Eye and ENT, Head and Neck Surgery Specialist Hospital and Dr. Yi Lin from the Eye Specialized Hospital in Sintgaing Township, alongside specialists from the No. (1) Tatmadaw Hospital (300-bed). They were assisted by the Chairman of the Kachin State Free Medical Treatment Foundation, Duwa Dr. Bum Yawng, and team members. The team carried out tasks including registration, examination, and surgical treatment for those who came for eye care, provided medicines free of charge, warmly greeted and encouraged the patients undergoing surgery, and donated medicines and spectacles.

Following this, a merit-sharing ceremony for the contribution of free eye examinations and surgeries, was held at the meeting hall of the State Health Department office.

Subsequently, the Chief Minister and his wife, along with other members, attended a donation ceremony at the Maykha Hall of the Kachin State Government Office. At the ceremony, the Venerable Sayadaw donated 1,500 sets of school uniforms for students, and the well-wisher U Brang Mai donated 1,500 sets each of exercise books, pens, and pencils, under the guidance of the Venerable Sayadaw. Basic education teachers and students also attended the event and listened to the words of advice and the sermon of appreciation delivered by the Venerable Sayadaw.

Furthermore, the State Minister for Social Affairs expressed gratitude and appreciation for the donations. the Venerable Sayadaw, the State Chief Minister, and responsible officials then distributed the school uniforms, exercise books, pens, and pencils to the students, it’s reported.
