Fishery Sector: Research Fund Management Committee holds meeting

The Fishery Sector Research Fund Management Committee held a meeting on Thursday at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the meeting, in his remarks, Chairman of the Committee Deputy Minister Dr. Aung Gyi stressed that the fishery sector generates more than 700 to 800 million US dollars in foreign income annually. To further increase the country's GDP and sustainably develop the fishery sector, it is necessary to encourage aquaculture production and capture fishery production.

This meeting discussed maintenance and use of research fund and implementation of scientific and practical research activities, 9 priority research activities and the benefits to be obtained from these activities. It’s learnt that by using 0.5% of the marine products export income of entrepreneurs in Tanintharyi Region as a research fund, scientific research is being implemented for the development of fisheries and fish farming industries.
