Hundreds of Central American migrants gathered in northern Honduras on Saturday to embark on the first major migrant caravan of the year. A first group started their journey early in the morning at 4:00 am, while a larger group of about 400 people left later, at 7:00 am.

They set out from the city of San Pedro Sula, escorted by Honduran police, in hope of crossing safely into Guatemala. From there they hope to get to Mexico and onwards to the United States. Last year the Guatemalan government stopped a migrant caravan around the same time of the year.
