First Kunming Biodiversity Fund projects expected before COP16

An official of Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment on Wednesday said that the recently established Kunming Biodiversity Fund will make tangible contributions to global biodiversity conservation, with its first projects to be launched this year ahead of the crucial COP16 United Nations biodiversity conference.

The fund will provide free assistance in the form of financial, technical and capacity support for developing countries to implement the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. And, Colombia will host COP16 from October 21st to November 1st. As the chair of COP15, China has led the successful establishment of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
