The Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services issued an announcement on Saturday regarding the extension of the Temporary Ceasefire Period through June 30. The statement noted that the Tatmadaw initially declared a temporary ceasefire from May 6 to May 31 to facilitate accelerated rescue, relief, and reconstruction efforts in earthquake-affected areas.
At present, the Government continues to implement vigorous rebuilding and rehabilitation initiatives, including the restoration of government offices, residential housing, and transportation infrastructure. International aid is also being coordinated to support these efforts.
In accordance with the Constitution, preparations are underway to hold a free and fair multi-party democratic general election within this year. To ensure that all eligible citizens nationwide can participate in the election, regional peace and stability are essential.
To accelerate reconstruction in disaster-hit areas, facilitate the successful conduct of the general election, serve the interests of the State and its people, and promote lasting and genuine peace, the ceasefire has been extended for one month from June 1 to 30.
During the ceasefire period, all ethnic armed organizations and other armed groups are strictly warned against the actions of disrupting or attacking public transportation and communication routes, endangering the lives and property of civilians, attacking security outposts or military command centers responsible for law enforcement and public safety, mobilizing troops, preparing for conflict, or expanding territorial control.
Such actions would be considered violations of the ceasefire and are deemed harmful to the ongoing peace efforts. Should any group breach these terms, the Tatmadaw will take necessary and appropriate measures to safeguard the people and maintain public security.
