





Coffee Central Committee held its coordination meeting in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday. Chairman of the Committee Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo discussed that coffee is one of the important perennial crops for boosting production of agricultural products, and the government is striving for coffee to become a major export item by planting quality species by laying down the policies.
He called for harmonious cooperation between the government departments and private entrepreneurs for creating better conditions for investments. Deputy Minister Dr Aung Gyi later discussed the plans to extend the coffee cultivation.
Committee Member Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi also discussed that coffee contributes the development of natural environment and helps the forest coverage condition since it has to grow under the shady trees. He stressed that there are possibilities for extending coffee cultivation plots in the relevant forest areas.
The attendees later made general round of discussions on forming the work committees in the respective regions, states, districts and townships to support the extension of coffee cultivation areas.
